On September 3, 2025,  the International Boarding & Pet Services Association (IBPSA) hosted Larry Nouvel of UnRuffled Pets®, the OEM division of LNouvel Inc.; John J. McGlone, PhD., professor and animal behavior researcher at Texas Tech University; and, Caryn Stichler, Senior VP of Research  & Development at Tevra Brands for a webinar, entitled “The Science of Calm: A Collaborative Approach to Pheromone-Based Pet Wellness.”

Meeting the Needs of Facilities

From boarding kennels and daycares to grooming salons and shelters, pet care providers face daily challenges with stressed pets. Excess noise, aggression, and marking not only affect animal welfare but also staff safety as well as  operational costs.

“Facilities that integrate pheromone and interomone solutions see fewer incidents, calmer group housing, and better client satisfaction,” said Larry Nouvel, President of LNouvel Inc.

Science that Crosses Species

At the center of the webinar discussion was rabbit pheromone (2M2B), an interomone supplied by LNouvel Inc. through its UnRuffled Pets® division. Unlike traditional pheromones, which are species-specific, rabbit pheromone works across species boundaries — calming both dogs and cats in multi-pet environments.

The rabbit pheromone is unique because it signals safety in rabbits and reduces stress behaviors in dogs and cats as well,” explained Dr. John McGlone, professor and animal behavior researcher. “Its effects are measurable in both biometrics and behavior, making it one of the most powerful calming tools available to professionals today.”

Market Growth and Future Potential

The behavior modification category is valued at nearly $300 million in the U.S. alone. While some traditional pheromone products have plateaued, interomone based solutions are creating new opportunities for growth.

Tevra Brands’ Caryn Stichler noted that “pet parents are looking for results they can see. Interomone-based products like rabbit pheromone provide continuous, non-drug calming support that builds confidence in both consumers and professionals as well as the pets in their care. “Because the rabbit pheromone is quite volatile and does not require heat to bring about diffusion like other pheromones require, diffusers do not require electricity, so they are safer, portable and are great for use at home and on the go. Other applications include collars; portable sprays, on-the-go wipes; and veterinary solutions designed for exam rooms and post-surgery recovery. All these applications can be sold directly to pet parent consumers at boarding kennels, daycares and pet grooming salons.

Conclusion

By partnering with IBPSA, researchers like Dr. McGlone, and brands like Tevra,  we are helping shape a pet wellness future where calm is the standard — not optional.
